Hobas Campsite is 10 km from one of the largest Canyons in Africa, namely the Fish River Canyon. The Fish River Canyon is one of the largest canyons in the world. It spreads over 200 km and is over 550 meters deep. One of the most impressive sites is arriving at the lookout point on the mountain. This viewpoint allows for 180 – 270-degree views over the Fish River Canyon.

The campsite provides a shaded area and some grassed lawns. Each campground has a BBQ facility and a power supply with a light feature. The Hobas campsite is on generator power, and there is no power after 10 pm. It is advisable to plan for this power supply. The advantage of the Hobas campsite is that you are already within the conservation area, and one can view the sunrise and the sunset over the canyon.

You can walk along the mountain and take in the views of the canyon. However, it is not allowed to hike down to the Fish River for the day. Only the hikers that partake in the 5 – 6-day hiking trail is allowed to hike down the canyon. It is not uncommon to encounter klipspringer, springbok or even mountain zebra towards the canyon.

Fish River Canyon

The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. It stretches over an area of 28o km and is 55o meters deep. The Fish River Canyon is one of Namibia's most popular hiking trails. It is ideal to stay at Hobas and then visit the canyon. It is not uncommon to find springbok and mountain zebra along the way towards the canyon's viewpoint.

We do recommend that you make at least two visits to the canyon. You can experience the sunrise and sunset at the canyon. This way, you will have excellent photography opportunities.
